MORE ABOUT ME

I'm Tessie -Welcome home!

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!!!

I have been gearing up over the last few weeks to participate as a guest participant in the One Room Challenge! It is an event where bloggers all over the world make over 1 room in 6 weeks and document their progress every Thursday.

Emma, my eight year old daughter, had one request for her new bedroom… mint chocolate chip walls! At first I started laughing then I realized that my “mini me” had a stroke of decorating genius.

As I was brainstorming with ice cream on the mind I came across this image from Inspired by This. I adore the pastel colors with the retro feel. I decided to use this image as my jumping off point for the room design.

I also wanted to fill the room with pretty patterns like this gorgeous spread of plates from Shop Sweet Lulu.

The mood board I created is filled with pinks and mints with a few pretty patterns and a clean retro feel. For the wall paint I will be using Benjamin Moore Fresh Mint and I will be adding the “chips” with cut out vinyl triangles.

Here is a sneak peek at the floor plan:

Ready for the before picture? It is definitely in need of some TLC.

Here is Emma’s room today:

Girls Bedroom Before Makeover

We pretty much just threw everything in here from our old house including the broken lattice bed that she kicked in 3 years ago! The bed was number one on the list of things to replace. I decided to go with this Kura Loft Bed from Ikea.

And who doesn’t love a good Ikea hack? I’m planning on jazzing up the bed with curtains, wall paper and a reading area underneath. Something like this:

Another huge problem with Emma’s room is the lack of organization and storage for her Dolls. We will be getting rid of the Barbie house and creating an area for her American Girl Dolls. Right now all the dresses and accessories are lovingly stacked in shoe boxes. Ha!

After an exhaustive search for the perfect organizational piece, I finally found this cute mid century modern hutch that I will be using to organize all those dolls.

It is a solid piece with good bones crying out for a fresh coat of paint.

I’m still trying to decide exactly how to paint it. Maybe something like this:

I can’t wait to get started transforming this space! I will be posting the progress here on the blog every Thursday but I hope you will also follow along for more updates on my Instagram here.
